There are many brand names that we associate directly with certain products. Often they become pseudonymous with an item. Numerous examples out there such as Kleenex, Xerox, Coke, Band-Aid etc. come to mind. Often consumers may say "my Freon must be low" when their car or home isn't cooling like it should. You may be surprised to know that Freon is actually a brand developed by DuPont in 1928.
Originally Freon was praised for being non-toxic. Before Dupont had invented their Freon products, refrigerators used ammonia and other toxics to cool. Some fatilities even occurred due to toxic coolant leaks. In 1932, Carrier used Freon in the first modern day air-conditioning unit.
The original form of Freon is now banned because it is made up of CFC's which has been found to deplete the Earth's Ozone layer. DuPont and other companies now produce refrigerants that are safer to the environment.
If you aren't sure if your current air-conditioning system contains the old form of Freon contact us today. We can send one of our professionals to evaluate your current system and discuss the best way to handle your situation.
Now you can impress your local mechanic or HVAC specialist by telling them that saying Freon is not necessarily the same as saying Refrigerant!

U.S. Commerce Association’s Award Plaque Honors the Achievement
NEW YORK, NY, September 5, 2011 -- MTB Mechanical has been selected for the 2011 Best of Matthews Award in the Air Conditioning category by the U.S. Commerce Association (USCA).
The USCA "Best of Local Business" Award Program recognizes outstanding local businesses throughout the country. Each year, the USCA identifies companies that they believe have achieved exceptional marketing success in their local community and business category. These are local companies that enhance the positive image of small business through service to their customers and community.
This is the first year that a business has qualified as a Four-Time Award Winner. Various sources of information were gathered and analyzed to choose the winners in each category. The 2011 USCA Award Program focuses on quality, not quantity. Winners are determined based on the information gathered both internally by the USCA and data provided by third parties.
