Indoor Air Quality

Most people don’t realize that the air we breathe indoors can be 20 times more polluted than the air outside. Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) is a measurement of the health and comfort of the air you breathe while inside your home, office or any other facility. There are many solutions to improve Indoor Air Quality, from filtration systems to complete systems with air cleaners.

MTB Mechanical proudly offers and installs a wide selection of indoor air quality products that are cutting edge. Remove those unwanted and harmful airborne pollutants and continue to breathe easy. They differ in the amount of pollutants they remove from the air.

Box or 1" Pleated Filters: Although not specifically designed for improving indoor air quality, they do assist in protecting the integrity of your equipment. They require no electrical hook-up. They should be replaced every month.

Electrostatic Air Cleaners: These air cleaners remove particles by electrically charging them and then attracting those particles to an oppositely charged plate. The allergens and pollutants are then trapped in the filter and do not get released back into the air. Electrostatic filters are considered highly efficient, affordable to operate and easy to maintain.

High Efficiency Particulate Arresting (HEPA): Considered to produce the best results, the HEPA filter requires a separate blower and replaceable media. Although initial costs are higher than other filters, the HEPA filter effectively removes a larger percentage of pollen and many asthma and allergy-causing pollutants. The core to the HEPA air cleaner technology is a paper filter that has very small holes that limit the size of any particle than can pass though.

Media Air Cleaners: These add-on systems for a home’s cooling and heating systems help clean the air throughout your entire home. They combat indoor pollution by capturing even the smallest contaminants and keeping them from re-circulating back into the home’s air. The cleaners are ideal for allergy sufferers and for people who simply wish to breathe clean air. A professionally installed media air cleaner can help rid your home of dust, dust mites, pet dander, mold spores, pollen, bacteria, viruses, smoke and more!

Air Purification Systems: An air purification system cleans the air in your home better than any other single system you can buy. It is the only single indoor air quality system to attack all three classes of indoor air contaminants:

  • Small, breathable particles such as dust, dirt, pollen and allergens
  • Airborne mold spores, bacteria and viruses
  • Odors and chemical vapors

Air purification systems attach to the furnace or air handler, where contaminants are removed and destroyed before air is re-circulated into your home.

Heat /Energy Recovery Ventilation (HRV/ERV): The HRV uses virtually noise-free fans that draw in fresh cool outdoor air while removing stale, heated indoor air. The ERV performs the same function, only utilizing a rotary energy recovery wheel. In both cases, the units transfer the temperature and moisture properties from one air stream to the other, without allowing the two airflows to mix. They provide the fresh-air feel of an open window, with virtually no heat/energy loss or safety risk. These systems can also be zoned to allow you to choose which rooms receive priority ventilation.

Dehumidifiers: A whole-house dehumidification system can control the moisture in the air and provide a more comfortable home environment. Managing the in-home humidity levels can minimize the spread of airborne pollutants and allergens. Moisture in the home can cause various problems, such as mold, mildew, dust mites and bacteria. Without overcooling your home, a whole-house dehumidifier removes moisture from sticky indoor air, making you feel more comfortable without lowering your thermostat.

Humidifiers: In the colder winter months, you can experience a loss of needed humidity in the air, causing your home’s air to become dry, resulting in: dry noses, cracked, itchy skin, sore throats, aggravated allergy and asthma symptoms, painful static shocks, chipping paint and plaster, splitting or cracking wood floors, furniture, trim and molding. Increase your family’s level of comfort and protect your valuable furnishings by adding just the right amount of moisture to your home. There are many options for humidifiers, which can reduce dryness and static electricity in the air.

UV Lights: UV lights are effective weapons against contaminants in the HVAC system. They use intense rays of ultraviolet light to control and kill contaminants in the air and on surfaces. The use of UV lights reduces bacteria, fungi and microbial growth on wet indoor cooling coil surfaces, improving the air quality and protecting the heating and cooling equipment.

Why is it so important to pull a permit on every job we do?
